Old Age! It is a blessing to live a good and healthy life in later years of our lives. Who doesn't want to grow old and be healthy? I think everyone is scared of death and even more of living a life where you are really sick and suffering for a long period of time. A lot of people do not want to be put on the life machine as it is very scary to imagine how life will be for you and the family members. One of my biggest fears of growing old is living in a nursing home where i am not able to take care of myself. I do not want to live to that point where i am not able to take care of myself. I know a lot of elderly people that joke around telling me how they did not plan on living this long. On weekly basis i see many late eighty years old walking, talking and driving, They are in a great condition and health and there is nothing more inspiring to me than being in such a health when i grow old. I know a lot of different factors come in role for longevity like genetics, diet and environmental factors.
When i see elderly people it is so inspiring to me and i want to be as healthy as i can be. I always ask them how they have lived their life and if there something different they did to be so healthy. The number one answer i got is that they always did some kind of activity. They either walked for miles everyday or ran, did sports or did physically required labor which has helped them and their body to stay healthy and in shape.
I know there are some problems that come in ones life that can not be helped like being diagnosed with a serious illness, or suffering from health problems. We can try to do our best in every situation and make the best of our lives in every possible situation. I know it's easier said than done because there are so many things that can bring us down. Like the saying goes " count your blessings, not your worries" is a good quote to live by. Life is a blessing and we should cherish it in every possible way.
Years ago I worked at the YMCA and while I was there Group Health started a plan for seniors called "Silver Sneakers". They would pay for seniors to have a gym membership as long as the member was logging a certain number of visits per month. I was seriously blown away by the change in the members conditions within a month. It was really amazing. They had more stamina, better balance, overall they looked and felt better. Plus it was great for them mentally as well. They got to go to these classes, meet new friends, share some laughs. And because they were feeling better and getting healthier, obviously their insurance benefited from them having to pay for less doctor visits. win win!
ReplyDeleteI agree activity is the best way to stay young at heart. The benefits of exercise are so rewarding all around. All of my pt's that exercise have such a great out look on life and I feel like there blood pressure is always great too. I enjoy your quote count your blessings not your worries.
ReplyDeleteexercise is a funny thing people are generally in one of three categories there are those who do not understand why people exercise all the time and dried the thought of going to the gym or going for a run. then there are those who do exercise occasionally but do not necessarily enjoy it and will often do other activities instead then there are people who cannot live without exercising. I am one of those people and its weird i did not always feel that way but after a while of being in a routine of exercising it almost cant live with out it. And you have no idea what you would do with yourself if you didn't have it.
